My Private Tutor 

Why did I start this?

• Now more than ever I believe we need to lean towards what we believe we can give back to our  community and especially our kids. Due to the things that are going on in our current times I have been getting more calls to help tutor kids. I understand all the reasons and I will try to do my very best to help you and your kiddo stay on track with learning and not worry about the outside world so much. I believe they need to focus on them and we need to be their guides to do that, because the future will desperately need them.

• I have heard many parents talk over the years, how they would like to stop homework to stop kids from doing so  much work, but I am coming from the other side of the coin. I very strongly believe that practice makes perfect, be that in homework, sports, music or anything. The reason I get from parents to want to stop homework is because they don't want to deal with it, or simply don't have time. I know very well about time constriction, since I have 4 kids of my own. But I do believe that they deserve the best chance they can have to make a brighter future for themselves and ourselves. Let us deal with the homework instead.

• It is physically and mentally impossible to become good at anything with out putting some effort, time and sometimes sweat into anything to see real results. Our brain is wired to learn, but only by repetition, that being with numbers, words, sound or visual. There is no way to remember anything without practice. Yes we understand things, but to memorize repetition is the only way. Same with muscles, which are also wired by the brain, they also learn from repetition, muscle memory. My son joined the swim team and I have to say that this, is fact. I have a B.A. with a major in psychology, and minor in teaching. I have 2 Master Degrees in Business, therefore I am very sure to stay on the side that believe how important homework and practice is.

• I moved with my family close to one of the best schools in our state. My husband drives an hour to work and an hour back. We have moved pretty far away from even family just so our 4 kids can have a better education. We knew we couldn't afford private school so we figured that this might be the best we can do. After a few years, my son being in 4th grade, I started noticing that they received less and less homework each day. I got on the internet and came to find out a new wave of information was going around that no homework is better for our kids. I immediately started to change and added our own homework during the days,  to teach my kids as much as I could. Their brain at certain periods of their life time is like a sponge which absorbs a lot of information at one time, more than we as adults might be able to do, but they can, and if that window of opportunity closes, it closes forever, or until the next time, which might be at a time when this information might not be as important. Time is of the essence and much advantage must be taken.

 

• I soon came to the conclusion that telling them to do homework, when they didn't have any from school, was harder than I thought. They would do homework if someone else told them they should, but not from me. So this is how I came to starting my own way. My kids enjoy learning, they are excited to find out about new things, they are always asking questions, and that is the way it should be, but there has to be someone to answer them back.

I realize that currently it is just me as staff, but soon, we will have more. 

I will be more than willing to communicate with the students' teacher to talk about what exactly  needs improvement in their opinion, anything that the kids might feel they want to work on or anything that they might be doing ahead. 

​
